OpenSourceBilling
(revision 1) (raw view)
I once worked for a company (Kenan Systems) that wrote billing software for telcos, and I'm a big fan of Free Software and Open Source software. So I've been casually keeping a list of the open source billing packages that I know about. *ISPD* - http://ispd.eburg.com/ - the first open source billing system that I know of. Largely written in C. Seems to have run out of steam, or perhaps (but unlikely) it does something useful so it's stable. *freeside* - http://www.sisd.com/freeside/ - I installed this one in the fall of 2000 and it basically works. It's written in perl and uses a SQL database back end. The billing functionality is *extremely* basic: it doesn't do usage, or even store the bills that it has generated. It is under development, though, and there's traffic on the mailing lists. *ISFree* - http://isfree.terrabox.com/ - found in March 2001. Looks to be written in C, with web GUI and uses postgres as a back end. *ipac-ng* - an IP accounting package which uses ipchains or iptables to gather info about who's doing what and feed it into a pgsql database. http://sourceforge.net/projects/ipac-ng/ *ipmeter* - IP mediation. http://www.ipmeter.com/ *WebHosting Billing System* - http://www.tolchz.net/programming/ PHP on the front, Mysql on the back. Looks pretty basic. *CBMS* - PHP front end, mysql back end. Written by voxel.net to run their own business, looks like it's morphed into a commercial service bureau as well. Seems to be more feature-full than ISPD, probably comparable to freeside. http://www.voxel.net/projects/cbms/ *Jet* - Python, Zope. Looks as if the "rating" engine is open source, and they sell add-ons. https://jet.obsidian.com.au/os/ -- Main.TobyCabot - 29 Mar 2001 <br>
