Things to do around the house:
Plumber
Electrician
- light fixture in Toby's office needs to be replaced (outlet under fixture, too)
- need outlet behind bed in master BR
- need outlet by Tory's bed
- light fixture by washer is shot
Honey Done
-
take old landscape timber to dump.
-
back door closer
-
install automatic garage door opener. It turns out that after all the trouble of hanging the opener Vic didn't like parking in the garage (the door was too narrow) so now my motorcyles park in the garage and the cars park outside.
-
can we put the upstairs hall light on the switch below it? - Nope..
-
move chandelier fixture in dining room
-
fix upstairs bathroom tile.
-
strip/paint front door to match shutters. This was a minor disaster. I used "strip-away" alkaline paint stipper which did a fantastic job stipping the four coats of paint but then wouldn't stop. It kept bleeding through the primer and dripping brown gunk down the front of the door. I also had to do a bunch of work to get the lock to close correctly; another Frank McDonald hack job.
-
prep/paint trim around front door, fix door sill.
-
get rid of cinder blocks, etc. took them to a place on the road to Costco, on the left, they charged $5 to take them.
-
outside hose faucet is shot - leaks
-
re-hang shelves in upstairs bath
-
two cracked windows on back porch (was 3 by the time I was done, but they're all fixed now)
-
get rid of gutters around garage looks much better
-
ethernet to back porch, toby's office
-
dining room door hinge (was held together with moly bolts and toothpicks. It's not fun cleaning up after a hacker)
-
rip up front walk, replace with something less tarmac Hired a local contractor to do the work, a guy named Andy Shumway. My Mom suggested running the walk around the side of the house to the driveway and that seemed to make sense so we did, and it worked out really well. The work was slightly more expensive than we hoped but we saved a little bit of money when Andy jackhammered the concrete pad in front of the front door and found a huge slab of granite *inside* the concrete. The previous owners had evidently taken a nice granite step, encased it in concreate and then painted the concrete Navy grey. At least it looks good now.
-
New dryer
-
wiring in dining room is nasty - run behind baseboards - not going to happen - there's no cellar under there so no place to run the wires.
