Things to do around the house:

   * install automatic garage door opener.
   * take old landscape timber to dump.
   * rip up nasty alu gutters on front awning
   * shutters in den.  http://smithandnoble.com/ sent me a catalog.  others?
   * hook up icemaker
   * fix shutter outside my office window.
   * front screen/storm door
   * back door closer
   * take down old TV antenna (while up there scrape paint around bath window)
   * re-open doorway between den and dining room
   * cracked window in Toby's office
   * cut back yard fence to waist high, paint.
   * patio behind kids' playroom
   * get rid of crappy storm windows on first floor front windows.  look for a less cheezy alternative.
   * wood gutters on front of house?
   * rip up the plywood that frank put down over the screened porch floor and figure out why he did it.  My guess is that the floor underneath is rotten but he didn't feel like doing a decent repair.
   * seal foundation with foam.

   * <strike>strip/paint front door to match shutters.</strike>  This was a minor disaster.  I used "strip-away" alkaline paint stipper which did a fantastic job stipping the four coats of paint but then wouldn't stop.  It kept bleeding through the primer and dripping brown gunk down the front of the door.  I also had to do a bunch of work to get the lock to close correctly; another Frank <nop>McDonald hack job.
   * <strike>prep/paint trim around front door, fix door sill.</strike>
   * <strike>get rid of cinder blocks, etc.  took them to a place on the road to Costco, on the left, they charged $5 to take them.</strike>
   * <strike>outside hose faucet is shot - leaks</strike>
   * <strike>re-hang shelves in upstairs bath</strike>
   * <strike>two cracked windows on back porch</strike> (was 3 by the time I was done, but they're all fixed now)
   * <strike>get rid of gutters around garage</strike>  looks much better
   * <strike>ethernet to back porch, toby's office</strike>
   * <strike>dining room door hinge</strike> (was held together with moly bolts and _toothpicks_.  It's not fun cleaning up after a hacker)
   * <strike>rip up front walk, replace with something less tarmac</strike> Hired a local contractor to do the work, a guy named Andy Shumway.  My Mom suggested running the walk around the side of the house to the driveway and that seemed to make sense so we did, and it worked out really well.  The work was slightly more expensive than we hoped but we saved a little bit of money when Andy jackhammered the concrete pad in front of the front door and found a huge slab of granite **inside** the concrete.  The previous owners had evidently taken a nice granite step, encased it in concreate and then painted the concrete Navy grey.  At least it looks good now.
