I had a "champagne problem" where the balance column in GNUCash was too narrow and I couldn't figure out how to make it wider. It turns out that there's no user interface gesture to do so, so you have to change a configuration parameter in a settings editor: http://gnucash.1415818.n4.nabble.com/width-of-Balance-column-is-too-small-td1459134.html

Kindle Mass Delete
